In campus placements Manendra got placed in Infosys and this opened another world of exposure for him. While working with Infosys in Chennai he interacted with seniors with the common interest in movies and even joined a film club. Here he met budding film makers and got an insight of what all he can pursue in film making. Being in bench in Infosys for the first six months provided him another opportunity to harness his talent in film making and he made 2 films during this period with his friends. One of the movies was on a very sensitive topic like Schizophrenia.

Shree Cement out of their beneficence contributed 2 crores for this project, the company is owned by H M Bangur, whose family had initially contributed rupees 10 lacs in the year 1950 for the establishment of MBM Engineering College, now upgraded as MBM University in the year 2021.The ambitious ENGG GIRLS HOSTEL PROJECT, designed and carried out by the MBM Engineering College Alumni Association, took more than 7 years to complete.

After completing Mechanical Engineering, Er. Lalit Mundra chose uncharted path of Bombay Stock Exchange, as he joined Suresh Rathi & Company as Operations Head in the year 1990. For an Engineer it was completely unknown territory, but with hard work and dedication Er. Mundra learned the tricks of the trade. ” from physical trading when we used to jot down orders on paper to complete digitalization of bourse, from the settlement timing of T+15 to settlement timing of T+2, from no KYC to E-KYC, Stock exchange has witnessed a complete change in last more than 3 decades. There has been a constant improvements in Capital Market because of Regulatory changes. I am a witness to all these proceedings. We were one of the first brokers to test the BSE BOLT on VSAT and also we were one of the first Depository Participants.” informs Er. Mundra.

Based on the percentage of Pre-University, he got admission in MBM Engineering College in the year 1964. During the first year of College, he attended the classes of Civil Department, later he shifted to Mining Branch because of higher grades. He even took practical training in Coal Mines near Parasia in MP with Er. P.C. Dhariwal, whose inspiring story has also been shared in MBM Stories. Er. P.C. Dhariwal’s brother Er. D.C. Dhariwal was his classmate and a very close friend. Er. Mehta was able to go to Electrical branch in the third year again because of better percentage. Er Mehta is having this unique distinction of studying three different branches of Engineering. He got first division in all the five years of Engineering. Besides being a scholar, he was also a member of the College Cricket Team for consecutive four years. In all those four years, his team was winners of Inter Faculty Tournaments. He was also a member of the University Cricket Team for the year 1968-69 and was awarded Faculty colour in Cricket during that match. He was Sports editor of Beacon Rays, the News Bulletin of College during those days.

By the age of 36, on behalf of these companies, he got repeated opportunities to travel all around the world to about 50 countries, across continents. This was truly a fantastic and great learning experience. He travelled to remote corners in Africa/South America/Asia, all by himself. Those were the times when there was no laptop or mobile phone available. He honestly feels that time spent at MBM taught him to be adventurous and he never felt afraid to travel alone anywhere.

Gridbots has been making robots for applications which are not only difficult but dangerous also. They have been selling robots to nuclear reactors, Oil explorations companies like ONGC and OIL, ISRO and other organizations. ” In Tata run power plant in Mundra, a wooden block was stuck 10 meters deep in a 300 mm diameter high pressure pipe. The plant was not functioning for some time because of this blockage and it was causing about Rs. 2.5 Crs to the company everyday. Company approached us to resolve the issue and with the help of Gridbots Stinger, we removed the wooden log in less than 5 hours. It was a satisfying moments for me as with indigenous technology, we could able to save 2.5 Crs per day for the company.” Says Er. Gaur.

Dr. AJAY S. SINGH is an Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) 1994 batch officer. From MBM he is the first officer to join ICAS. He is currently working as Director (Finance) on deputation from Government of India in Punatsangchhu-I Hydroelectric Project Authority, and additional charge of Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority, Bhutan. He has worked in different capacities in the Ministry of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Power etc. He has handled budgeting, payment, accounting, internal audit in the ministries and direct benefit transfer under the schemes like MGNREGA, PMAY, PMGSY, DDUGKY, NSAP, SBM, IWMP, Skill India, EPS, Labour welfare schemes etc. Earlier as Director, Multi-lateral Institution, Department of Economic Affairs, he handled loan portfolio of ADB and World Bank and country affairs in African Development Bank (AfDB). Mining sector in India is plagued by several environmental and health and safety related problems. The extraction of minerals from nature often creates imbalances, which adversely affect the environment. Mineral extractions become more difficult and challenging, when a mine is near to a thickly populated area and safety of the people becomes more important then other factors. Noise level, vibrations, air blast have to be kept in control so that mining doesn’t pose any threat to safety of the people. Pioneer and established player in cement Industry JK Group at their Nimbahera ( Rajasthan ) plant were facing a predicament situation. The main limestone mines were located in close proximity to a village, on one side it was a state highway and on the other side busy railway line was passing. It was an onerous task extracting the ore from this mines. Leadership team of JK group zeroed on a young and energetic Mining Engineer Mr. Padam Chand Dhariwal to carry out this task and it was no surprise that Er. Dhariwal came out with flying colors and justified the confidence of his seniors. Er. Dhariwal , an MBM Engineering College alumnus of 1968 Mining batch not only carried out safe mining, keeping in mind the safety of the people and public property but also achieved such great heights in his career that he received coveted Simmind award for the year 2008-2009 for the meritorious services rendered to limestone Industries of India. He was such a wonderful asset to the organization that he got 4 extensions in his service after retirement. The self belief, hard work, dedication and discipline are the virtues, which can easily be attributed to the towering personality like Er. P.C. Dhariwal.

Tushar Mangal, 2019 batch alumnus who got 55 th rank in prestigious Indian Engineering Services. Failures may break you apart making you go bitter, but Er. Tushar’s memoir teaches us very well how these rugged and scratchy paths with failures at every point leads us to the most beautiful places of the world. Rough days and jaggy nights full of hard work and yet when results being unsatisfactory, makes you introspect deep down. He had many barriers to deal with but he lived up to everyone’s expectations and cleared all the hurdles with grace. They do it well when they say Hard works pay off and this time we have proof.

In this edition of MBM Story, we have chronicled the rivetting life journey of Brigadier Ripu Soodan Retd, an alumnus of the 1988 Civil Engineering batch who chose service of the nation above all life comfort. He was selected through the SSB exam and later was trained in Technical Graduate Course at Indian Military Academy Dehradun to be commissioned into the Corps of Engineers and devoted nearly thirty years in field and peace on many crucial assignments including the Chief Engineer in Border Road Organisation. His contributions and exemplary services with dedication and hard work will always inspire us and strengthen the love and pride for our country.
