This enthusiastic leader with vibrant personality and lots of energy was none other but 1987 batch pass out Civil engineer from MBM Engineering College Er. It was a nice 4-year life at MBM. Although almost 2 years went by in Covid, the initial 2 years in MBM were the best time period of my life. I had a very good time with my friends in Jodhpur. The memories of celebrating birthdays, exploring Jodhpur, bunking classes, and every memory attached to MBM are very special. Also a twinning arrangement of MBM with Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu gave me the opportunity to do my summer internship in CIT. I went for a research internship in the Communication and signal processing domain and also published a paper. We used to work for 5 days in the lab and on weekends, we were free to explore the places nearby us. There I improved my time management skills and realized that you can enjoy and work simultaneously. Many seniors of mine performed extraordinarily. They are very supportive and always ready to guide you.

It was the time to face his fear in a very real and dangerous way. But he was mentally prepared, He was confident to reach the top. He continued on and climbed the Hillary Step, pushing himself to the summit. Finally, the long wait was over. He stepped on the summit on 22 May 2019, the feelings and emotions were out of control and time slowed down for a while. That moment was inexpressible in words. Then he took out the Indian flag with alma mater MBM and his employer Reliance logo and fluttered on the summit at the height of 8848 m. His rare blend of managerial and technical skills enabled him to rise to the highest post of Chief Executive Officer and Whole Time Director – and lead HZL from 2012 to 2015. Under his strong fundamentals of the core subject- Mining, HZL took giant strides transforming the latter into the largest integrated zinc producer in the world producing over 1 million tonne Zinc and Lead smelting capacity from a sleeping PSU trailing over 0.3 mtpa (million tonnes per annum). It bears testimony that a Company having its Lead (CEO) with expertise in the core subject (mining) can grossly change footprints of DNA of progress. His “out of the box” thinking and global vision manifested to exponentially ramp up (tripling-up) the production capacities of all its captive mines. Production of Rampura Agucha Mine (RAM) was ramped up to 6.5mtpa in 2011-13 making it the largest Lead Zinc producing mine in the world. Similarly, the Sindeswar Khurd mine was steered to produce more than 5mtpa thus becoming the largest and most mechanized underground metal mine of India. Similar blueprints were made for the phenomenal ramp-up of production of Zawar Group of mines and Kayad mines.

Dr. Kothari completed Ph.D in 1974, the Ph.D. In those years there was no need for the formal interviews for the IISc Ph.D. degree holders since most of the higher education academic faculty knew the Ph.D. degree holders personally but in the year 1975 IISc council decided to stop the recruitment of Ph.D. pass out to become permanent faculty which made him quit his IISc life. He got an appointment letter from IIT Kanpur as a lecturer in the year 1975. After that Dr. S M Sen, Dean, Faculty of Technology, M S University offered him the post of Reader in Electrical Engineering directly and he joined in 1976.
